The Rippingtons' 20th studio album, 2014's Fountain of Youth, is an expansive, layered, and stylistically varied release conceptualized around the travels of early European explorers like Juan Ponce de León, whose search for an elusive magical fountain inspired the album's title. Once again showcasing guitarist and longtime bandleader Russ Freeman, the album finds the journeyman smooth jazz outfit exploring a wide array of sounds, from the cinematic, flamenco-infused "Rivers of Gold" to the percussion and flute-heavy "We Will Live Forever" and the funky, blues-infused "Soul Riders." This is an ambitious, colorful release.

In the only one of Johann Schein's religious works to be reissued as long as twenty-two years after his death, Fontana D'Israel (Fountain of Israel) is still regarded as his most exceptional artistic achievement. This Israelsbrünnlein contains twenty-six vocal compositions, which, as Schein writes, "can be comfortably played on their own with lively voice and instruments, and also on the organ/harpsichord" and to which he had added a figured bass, admittedly dispensable in most cases.

The New edition of this very rare deep spiritual jazz album (currently GBP400 on Discogs for an original), first released as a private-press album in 1970 on flautist Lloyd McNeill's own Asha Record label in Washington, DC. First reissued on Soul Jazz Records' Universal Sound sub-label in 2011 (long deleted) and now available newly digitally remastered on Soul Jazz Records main label. Lloyd McNeill is an African-American flautist, painter, poet, and photographer born in Washington, D.C., in 1935. His multi-disciplinary creative life led to encounters and friendships with Nina Simone, Picasso, Eric Dolphy, Nana Vasconceles and other legendary cultural figures

The Piano Quintet and Sextet are Pfitzner’s largest chamber works; the Piano Quintet Op. 23 is in the traditional instrumentation for piano and string quartet but the Sextet Op. 55 is scored for an unusual ensemble of piano, clarinet, violin, viola, violoncello and double bass. The ensemble Ulf Hoelscher have here created an exemplary, stylistically illuminating recording which is a great addition to the CPO catalogue.

Fritz Reiner was one of the foremost conductors of his time. Crowning his long career in Europe and America was the decade from 1954 to 1963 as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra – an illustrious partnership that ranks along such other historical tenures as Karajan’s in Berlin, Szell’s in Cleveland and Bernstein’s in New York.

This limited edition box set includes 35 sonic spectacular albums from the early golden age of digital when Decca’s engineers created a new DECCA SOUND. This set is a celebration of the nearly 25-year partnership between conductor Charles Dutoit and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Highlights include recordings of Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Berlioz, Bizet, Respighi, Stravinsky, Holst, Debussy and much more. This box coincides with Dutoit’s much anticipated return to Montréal after nearly 15 years. 2016 also marks the return of Decca recording in Montreal in their brand new Symphony hall with rare repertoire in a new association with Kent Nagano.
