Ever since I learned about this on the internet and read its excerpt in the December 2009 issue of Playboy, I tried to search for its digital version. As luck would have it, I found the high quality scans of "Jojo" (he is also the scanner of the Walt Disney's Christmas Classics Vol. 1 Hardcover I had posted earlier) and here we are. Playboy bills it as "the world's most endearingly perverted storyteller's take" on the first book of the Bible, all 50 chapters of it. Considering the nature of R. Crumb's work (honestly and totally irreverent) and his stature (he is one of pioneers of underground comics gone mainstream) and considering the subject of his illustrations, I must say I do not intend to offend delicate and/or religious sensitivities; my only purpose is to present--and share--here what surely is a groundbreaking and landmark work in comic art. Oh, and please read R. Crumb's Introduction found in page 9 of this CBR--it's priceless. MATURE READERS.

During his career, Keith Jarrett has performed completely improvised solo piano concerts, led two notable quintets, had a longtime standards trio and reluctantly played electric keyboards with Miles Davis. However, even in his huge discography, Book of Ways stands alone, for it is a two-CD set of solos played on the clavichord, a predecessor of the piano that has been almost entirely extinct for over two centuries.
One of the major pianists in jazz since the late 1960s, Keith Jarrett has always followed his own muse. He gained important early experience as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and the very popular Charles Lloyd Quartet and was with Miles Davis' early fusion band during 1969-71. Since that time, he has mostly focused on acoustic piano with his music ranging from the avant-garde and his bluesy improvisations to his fresh renditions of jazz standards and occasional forays into classical music.
Book of Ways consists of 19 pieces that are generally concise (only three exceed seven minutes) and cover a wide variety of moods. The unusual-sounding clavichord, which sounds very much like a plucked string instrument, comes across as charming, with its beauty brought out by Jarrett's folkish melodies. This is a unique set well worth exploring.

An excellent album, very intense and symphonic. Solid flute lead work (Kollar Attila is one of the greatest flute players), lots of majestic chorus interventions (singers of Hungarian State Opera) and the strong participation of drums, bass, guitar and -specially- the electronic keyboards, makes "Nostradamus" a must. SOLARIS is one of the few bands where, despite the prominent flute role, the listener doesn't think about JETHRO TULL, because the sound is pretty much symphonic and pompous…
