On Chris de Burgh's debut album, his gentle, beguiling vocal style is introduced, which instantly trademarks him as a genuine master of the soft ballad. de Burgh's engaging dominance of words and lyrics carries both his love songs and his simple light rock tunes to a higher level, thanks to the attention and care given to each of his pieces. As an inaugural album, the songs hold well as they are delicately cushioned by his voice, but are substantially thin where melody or appealing choruses are concerned. Both "Windy Night" and "Watching the World" draw the most attention, bringing de Burgh's silkiness to the focal point.

It's almost a blessing that, for legal reasons, this four-piece can't call itself Black Sabbath. It only serves to hammer home the point that with Ronnie James Dio up front and Vinny Appice in back, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler express a very different side of their musical personalities than they ever did with Ozzy Osbourne on vocals and Bill Ward on drums. Where the original lineup was an ultra-heavy blues band, with a rhythm section that never failed to swing (OK, they failed a little bit on "Sweet Leaf"), when Dio came on board in 1980 the group was reinvented as a heavy metal juggernaut.

It went double platinum, and featured such chart topping hits as "High Enough", "Damn Yankees", and "Coming of Age".

When Lonnie Mack sang the blues, country strains were sure to infiltrate. Conversely, if he dug into a humping rockabilly groove, strong signs of a deep-down blues influence were bound to invade, par for the course for any musician who cited both Bobby Bland and George Jones as pervasive influences. Fact is, Mack's lightning-fast, vibrato-enriched, whammy bar-hammered guitar style influenced many a picker, too, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, who idolized Mack's early singles for Fraternity and later co-produced and played on Mack's 1985 comeback LP for Alligator, Strike Like Lightning.

By 1967, King had refined his singing and guitar style (which were always intertwined) to a fine point. What was just beginning to emerge during this period was King the showman, the singer with a story to tell his audience; sometimes a sad story, sometimes an angry one, occasionally even a downright mean one. Nowhere was this more apparent than in live performance. Here he's captured in concert in Chicago, home of the blues and the ideal place to testify to the congregation. From "Tired of Your Jive" to "I Know What You're Puttin' Down" to the unequivocal "Baby Get Lost," B.B. lets his audience in on the ups and downs of romance in no uncertain terms, both through his impassioned vocals and characteristically stinging guitar. The effect is both cathartic and awe-inspiring.

Bioprocessing Pipelines: Rheology and Analysis
Publisher: Freeman Press (January 2006) | ISBN-10: 0963203622 | ENG | PDF | 173 Pages | 2.02 MB

The intended audience for this book is students, technologists, and practicing engineers interested in processing biological fluids, primarily food and pharmaceutical fluids. These materials are subjected to a variety of mechanical forces and thermal treatments during processing. Our work is designed for self-study; and, after sufficient effort, we hope readers will be able to: 1) Explain the basic principles of fluid rheology needed to examine bioprocessing pipeline design problems; 2) Determine (using an appropriate instrument) the rheological properties of biological fluids needed to calculate pipeline design parameters; 3) Solve pumping problems (for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids) using the mechanical energy balance equation as the framework for the analysis; 4) Characterize the shear and thermal treatments given to biological materials in fluid processing systems.
