It was mankind's largest and most magnificent machine - the Titanic, the gigantic ship that was supposed to transport people from Europe to the United States. Filled with dreams of the future and a strong belief that man could invent himself out of anything. Titanic was the ship that could not sink. Until the fateful night of April 15, 1912, when it hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sank - leaving 1,495 people in the cold grave of the sea.

This spectacular visual journey captures some of the most stunning photographs—portraits, animals, landscapes, seascapes, nature, etc.—from National Geographic’s renowned image collection. Award-winning photographer Annie Griffiths culled the images to reflect the many variations on the universal theme of beauty. Up to one million gladiators are thought to have died in arenas across the Roman Empire. Seventy-five were recently found in a single cemetery in York. Two thousand years ago, York was a Roman stronghold, a staging ground for the push against the Scots. Apart from ancient Italy, Roman Britain had the highest density of gladiatorial arenas in Europe. As part of a routine building inspection in the outskirts of York, archaeologists discover an ancient Roman burial site. It soon became apparent the find was anything but routine.
