From Congolese soukous to Calcutta slide guitar, this collection features kindred creative spirits who have harnessed its limitless expressive potential.

Silver Solstice is a live album by Paul Winter Consort and Friends, released in 2005. In 2006, the album earned the group a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. Recording of the 25th annual Winter Solstice concert from Paul Winter and a remarkable cast at St. John's Cathedral in New York. It's become a vital seasonal tradition, with music spanning the globe, from gospel to the Balkans, Irish to new age. In many ways it defies description, being so eclectic. For three decades, Paul Winter has put forth his musical vision of the community of the Earth, beginning with his landmark album Common Ground in the 1970s. Silver Solstice embraces the musical traditions of many cultures, and includes voices from what Winter calls "the greater symphony of the Earth" - whale, wolf and uirapuru (the musical wren of the Amazon rainforest) - a trilogy of voices representing the sea, the land, and the air.
