What are the hallmarks of a Christopher Nolan film? Immense IMAX imagery. Starry ensembles. Long takes. Tight, geometric compositions. Nonlinear story. And, of course, a booming score. For the music to Oppenheimer, a sprawling epic about how J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) became the so-called “father of the atomic bomb” and Nolan’s most ambitious picture to date, the revered filmmaker turned to none other than Ludwig Göransson. The composer had worked on Nolan’s previous film, Tenet, and the director knew he was the right man for the job.

Instead of a separate release for each episode, which was done for the first season, the season 2 soundtrack was split into two separate volumes. The first, which was released back in November, contains songs from “Chapter 9” through “Chapter 12.”Today, the season finale of The Mandalorian premiered, and with it came the second volume of the season 2 soundtrack for “Chapter 13” through “Chapter 16.”

He then relocated to Los Angeles, enrolled in the Scoring for Motion Picture and Television program at the University of Southern California, and soon found work as an assistant to film composer Theodore Shapiro (Old School, Tropic Thunder, St. Vincent), who shared Göransson's penchant for comedy.

During the first season of The Mandalorian, Göransson released eight full-length albums, devoting one album to each individual episode, which included recurring themes throughout the season. But for season 2, he and Walt Disney Records are mixing things up a little bit. This season, they’re going to release the soundtrack in two volumes “containing new musical themes, sounds and ideas.”
