It may not be the "ultimate" collection of hits from the 1970's, but this ten disc set does indeed offer 198 of the songs that helped define the decade. Happily, they are all original recordings by the original artists, as they were heard on the radio. True, in a few cases that means the selections are "radio edits" (Rod Stewart's 1971 hit "Maggie May", for example, is missing the 30 second instrumental introduction that was included on the original album, but rarely played over the airwaves), but why quibble? The songs, though not necessarily remastered, all sound great, and the set includes some genuine treasures that have not (yet) been offered on other compilations. Highly recommended!

Capitol Records 1942-2002 Special Box Set features six discs that dutifully cover six decades of music from the label that brought the world key recordings from the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Duran Duran, Les Paul and Poison. It's an eclectic mix, but by presenting the cuts snug within the pop culture confines of the decade in which they were birthed, the pacing never suffers. It's a club sandwich with Freddie Slack & His Orchestra's "Cow-Cow Boogie [From Ride 'Em Cowboy]," the Beatles' "Hard Day's Night" and the Vines "Get Free" for bread, and it's a fascinating look at the ebb and flow of the music business.

Conceived by guitarist Auder Júnior, AUDERGANG has consolidated itself as one of the great exponents of Blues in the Brazilian scene. The band was created in 2007 in Belo Horizonte, the birthplace of one of the greatest musical movements in the 1960s, the "Clube da Esquina". Influenced by this generation and by the blues, Audergang honors this historical phase in some of its songs , like "On every corner".

US underground heavy rock sensations Poobah released this very fine sophomore effort U.S. Rock back in 1976, and the folks at Ripple Music are making it available once again, remastered and with 4 bonus tracks, lyrics, and photos. If you haven't heard of this band or discovered their kick ass proto-metal sound, this is as good a place to start as any.
