Master filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu directed fifty-three feature films over the course of his long career. Yet it was in the final decade of his life, his “old master” phase, that he entered his artistic prime. Centered more than ever on the modern sensibilities of the younger generation, these delicate family dramas are marked by an exquisite formal elegance and emotional sensitivity about birth and death, love and marriage, and all the accompanying joys and loneliness. Along with such better-known films as Floating Weeds and An Autumn Afternoon, these five works illustrate the worldly wisdom of one of cinema’s great artists at the height of his powers.

Zombie Tales The Series #1-12 Complete
Eng | RS & Hotfile | 11 CBR 1 CBZ | BOOM! Studios | May 29 2008 - March 18 2009 | 205 MB Total

was a revival by BOOM! Studios of its award-winning anthology series on the subject of the undead. Each issue features three zombie stories from different recognized writers mostly in the horror genre, but a surprising few known for other material--a sort of zombie-flavor-of-the-month (sorry, couldn't resist). The stories with their artwork are generally all very good, several even great and a couple or two outstanding. They are eclectic notwithstanding the specific subject, punchy, and never boring. The first issue came out in May 29, 2008; the series was supposed to be a monthly publication but after the 12th issue released last March 18, 2009, nothing more came out. The series might have been canceled, but I have no actual knowledge of that. Still, here are 12 varied, strange and thrillingly blood-curdling issues for you to chew on and digest.

Great art is among the most sublime, meaningful, and redeeming creations of all civilization. Few endeavors can equal the power of great artwork to capture aesthetic beauty, to move and inspire, to change your perceptions, and to communicate the nature of human experience. Great art is also complex, mysterious, and challenging. Filled with symbolism, cultural and historical references, and often visionary imagery, great artworks oblige us—defy us, even—to reckon with their many meanings.
