Like the first volume of this series, this gathers rare recordings from throughout the bulk of Greg Lake's career, spanning the late '60s to the mid-'90s. Lake might be one of the most famous musicians associated with progressive rock, but you'd have a hard time taking that impression away from this CD if it was the first or only sampling of his music you heard. Rarities collections can't serve as a fair career retrospective, of course…

Gregory Stuart "Greg" Lake is an English musician, songwriter and producer. As a singer and instrumentalist, Greg Lake had his greatest success and influence in the progressive rock outfit Emerson, Lake & Palmer and, before that, as a founding member of the original King Crimson. He has also been reasonably popular as a solo artist working in more of a hard rock idiom. This cardboard sleeve reissue featuring the high-fidelity SHM-CD format, and includes the albums "Greg Lake & Gary Moore", "Manoeuvres", "In Concert", "From The Underground: The Official Bootleg", and "From The Underground Vol. 2".

Geoff Downes and Greg Lake had first played together back in 1983, when the latter briefly joined the former in ASIA for a Japanese jaunt. Still, it wasn’t until five years on from there that the two came up with a project called RIDE THE TIGER that didn’t bring forth an album, although some tracks were repurposed, while others appeared on rarities compilations such as Lake’s "From The Underground", and two remained unreleased…

…And the award for most fully rounded, realised, concept story album of the 2000s goes to… (pause for effect, as everyone shouts 'Oh get on with it' at their TV screens) … The Clockwork Fable by Gandalf's Fist! (rapturous applause, followed by knowing nods of approval and close ups of the stars whispering 'who the hell are Randolph's Tryst???', while silently cursing that they haven't won the imaginary prize). Yes, it's an unlikely tale, so much so in fact that Gandalf's Fist probably wrote it. Although there's maybe not enough ferrets, badgers or woodwind cake launchers involved for their taste!

“With Polysomn we emphasize psychedelic chaos. Each song creates their own reality, filled with surreal visions and ethereal soundscapes. “an Bat None” introduces the heavier side of the album. Its purpose is to be a wall of sonic bliss.”
