Collectors of this fine German progressive band will need to invest to have this 2 CD package which is not a "All My Best Of" so don't panic. This 2 CD package is really a documentary on Grobschnitt and is a collaboration of unreleased Grobschnitt songs and version many of which are live. Highlight for me is the completely different verion of "Solar Music" (37 mins long!!) which is quite awesome and does not compromise their live masterpiece. Also an incredible version of "Space Rider" Live in which Eroc and Lupo's brilliance are displayed. "Die Grobschnitt Story" is well packaged with a nifty little book full of pictures for you to share with your friends and family.

Grobschnitt was a German rock band which existed between 1970 and 1989. Their style evolved as time progressed, beginning with psychedelic rock in the early 1970s before transitioning into symphonic progressive rock, NDW and finally pop rock in the mid-1980s. Grobschnitt, unlike other bands, utilized humor in their music in the form of unexpected noises and silly lyrics and concepts. As was common with many German bands of the time, Grobschnitt sang in English until the early 1980s, despite touring exclusively in Germany. The band accrued a loyal fan base through its live performances which included pyrotechnics and German comedic sketches. Highlight performances include Solar Music, an extended mostly-instrumental piece which lasted up to an hour. Grobschnitt were also known for their stamina on stage, frequently performing shows in excess of two hours.

Yet another superb follow up to "The Grobschnitt Story 1" with some real treats for fans of Grobschnitt. This time around Eroc has assembled a collections of alternate mixes (versions which did not make the albums.. .including "Severity Town" from "RockPommels Land"), live tracks from various concerts and loads of older and unreleased songs. Once again a slight portion of the package is devoted to an improvised excursion into "Solar Music" land. This 10 min track is one of the high points in my opinion as Grobschnitt take the listener back into the time of "Solar Music" with a twist… Eroc has also included a great live version of "RockPommels Land" for us to enjoy. Grobschnitt are one of my all-time favourite progressive rock acts and "The Grobschnitt Story 2" is just another solid testimonial as to why these guys were larger than life!!! Essential all the way around. ~Progarchives

The Grobschnitt debut from 1972 are a milestone in modern music history. This double CD collects what the band recorded before the debut was released. These early authentical recordings leave in many ways a livelier and fresher impression compared to the perfectly polished studio versions of the LP from Metronome. They show "the" Kapelle Elias Grobschnitt precisely in the fashion as they were to be experienced in those days.

Formed in 1970, Grobschnitt was one of the best German band from the mid-Seventies. All of the members of the band adopted pseudonyms, namely "Eroc", "Mist", "Wildschwein", "Lupo" and "Popo". The band was created by Joachim "Eroc" Ehrig (drums, percussion), Stefan "Wildschwein" Daneliak (guitars & vocals), and Gerd-Otto "Lupo" Kühn (guitar, vocals). This nucleus was later completed by Wolgang "Popo" Jäger (bass) and Volker "Mist" Kahrs (keyboards, Mellotron, synthesizers). They were best known as Yes-inspired band, but they also explored other progressive rock styles (either psychedelic prog or more cohesive "Krautrock" with some stunning instrumental passages that will be familiar to anyone into the likes of Man, Amon Duul II, Wishbone Ash and many similar bands)…

Considered by many to be the second last good Grobschnitt album before the departure of Eroc. In fact consciously Grobschnitt elected after "Merry Go Round" to stop recording their signature fairytale - like music and move more in the spirit of the '80's. Considering this was one of the later Grobschnitt albums it contains many of their most beloved melodies. "Merry-Go-Round" contains everything that you would expect with great drumming - bass - guitar interplay with fairytale-like keyboards and atmospheres. Songs are exceptionally well written and performed and if you are a completist then you can snag Repetroire's re-mastered version with 2 bonus tracks.
