Grotesque (2009)

En 1910, le jeune Adolf Hitler tourne le dos à la province et à l’Autriche profonde et arrive à Vienne pour conquérir le monde par sa peinture. Il s’installe dans un foyer pour hommes de la Leichengasse, « la rue des Cadavres », et se prépare fiévreusement au grand jour de son concours d’entrée à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts. Il partage une baraque miteuse avec deux Juifs : Schlomo Herzl, un astucieux marchand de bibles, et le cuisinier casher Lobkowitz, qui prétend être Dieu et fait parfois vraiment des miracles. Schlomo, le vieux sage, veut écrire un livre intitulé « Mein Leben » (Ma vie) mais ce titre n’enthousiasme personne et on tombe d’accord pour que ce soit « Mein Kampf ».

When slacker thirtysomething couple Burt (John Krasinski) and Verona (Maya Rudolph) discover that his parents are moving overseas, the duo – who expect their first child in a few months – set off on a cross-country tour to figure out where they should lay down some roots in Sam Mendes' poignant comedy Away We Go. They visit a number of different cities, and meet with a different friend or family member's family at each stop. Their hosts include a set of emotionally detached parents (Allison Janney and Jim Gaffigan), a pair of overprotective new-age parents (Maggie Gyllenhaal and Josh Hamilton), and old college pals (Chris Messina and Melanie Lynskey), who have adopted a number of kids. Novelist Dave Eggers wrote the script with Vendela Vida.

Our hero, Cooper, awakes to find himself nauseous, weak and covered in webbing, hanging from the ceiling of an office where, just minutes ago, he started his new job. As he struggles out of his slimy prison he comes face to face with his opponent - a grotesque, powerful and very angry bug. All 3 ft of it. And so begins a hideous, nail-biting, comedic, all-action adventure to find a safe haven while constantly outwitting an infestation of monstrous proportions. As Cooper embarks on his journey, he befriends a ragtag group of survivors including Sara, a feisty attractive female.

The story and fate of three families: A Jewish family destroyed by the massacres of the Nazis in Lithuania; the family of the culprit, who flew to America and keeps grotesque family cohesion; the family of Ratz, a social democratic family, dissolving itself miserably in today's Vienna. The condemnation of the last century bundled in these three families showing clearly that one could never escape from its own past.
