Guillermo Martınez

Daniel Ferruz (Zaragoza, 1992) is a pianist, composer and arranger who has lived in Barcelona since 2014. He has been educating classical music since he was 7 years old in Zaragoza and, starting at age 18, discovers the world of jazz, which leads him to to be trained in Barcelona and Groningen (Holland), with top level pianists, such as Albert Bover, Roger Mas, Marco Mezquida, Jasper Soffers and Rob van Bavel. In addition, he has complemented his training with master classes by Fred Hersch, Ethan Iverson, Mike Kanan, Kevin Hays, David Berkman and Guillermo Klein, among others.

Born in San Juan and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, García studied guitar at the extension program of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and drumset at Micheo Music Academy, while later receiving a bachelor’s degree in Música Popular from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. Furthermore, he was awarded the Juan Luis Guerra Scholarship to complete a master’s degree in Contemporary Performance at Berklee College of Music, Valencia, Spain. Currently, he is finishing a second master’s degree in Music Education at Teachers College Columbia University.

The Conga Kings are back with their second Chesky Records release to prove that these master congueros have more rhythmic tales to tell. Featuring Candido Camero, Carlos "Patato" Valdes and Giovanni Hidalgo, Jazz Descargas is a spontaneous celebration of modern rhythm and melody, a joyous colloquium of jazz and Afro-Cuban sounds by the likes of Machito, Dizzy Gillespie and Tito Puente. Historically, musically and conceptually, this rhythmic dream team is creating the genuine article. The Conga Kings are joined on Jazz Descargas by special guests Phil Woods, Mario Rivera, Chocolate and Jimmy Bosch.

It was at 9 o’clock on the morning of 25 October 1832, in the village of María in the Spanish
province of Almería, that Antonia Local París gave birth to a son. That same day, held in the arms
of his godmother Manuela Ganíguez Robles, the baby was baptised Julián Gabino de Arcas Lacal
by the local priest, Pedro Manuel García Martínez, at the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation.
Julián’s father, Pedro Arcas Arjona, was a talented guitarist, trained in the method of the great Spanish master Dionisio Aguado (Madrid, 8 April 1784–Madrid, 20 December 1849), and he passed his passion for the instrument on to his sons Julían and Manuel. As well as becoming a fine guitarist, the latter was also a singer who achieved great success at the Teatre Principal in Barcelona, the city in which he settled and lived until his death in 1890. In 1844, the Arcas family moved to Málaga, where Julián began lessons with José Asencio, a highly respected teacher who had studied directly with Aguado.
