H.E.R delivered something amazing with her EP I Used to Know Her: The Prelude. She reels the listener in with the first song being a sample of Lauryn Hill’s “Lost Ones” . Using anything remotely close to Lauryn Hill’s work is risky but there was no disrespect with H.E.R.’s “Lost Souls”. It literally made me eager for the next track. The EP in total is 6 songs, 20 minutes in duration. There’s no disappointments with this project. It’s definitely worth the listen.

In seeking the right song for Reminiscence - one that would encapsulate the film’s scope and tone and capture the spirit of the movie and the characters - Joy connected with her good friend and collaborator, Grammy-nominated producer Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman. Gitelman is an incredible artist, musician, producer, and songwriter, known for his work and instrumentation for J. Cole, H.E.R., Mac Miller, and Anderson Pak. He was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year for his work on H.E.R.’s 2019 Album I Used To Know Her.Gitelman watched the film and immediately reached out to artist and songwriter Lonr., and the two dove into working together on a song. When Joy first heard the song produced from those sessions, “Save My Love” by Lonr. (Feat. Amber Mark), she knew the song and these artists were a perfect fit for the film. The song had the musical traits she had envisioned - an epic yet romantic quality, and a certain swagger befitting the film’s star Hugh Jackman’s character, Nick Bannister. It had the crucial features of being both catchy and “sticky” – and also connected to the film’s themes about memory and how music and songs play out in life. The instrumentation was especially key, and it fulfilled Joy’s need for an international essence in its tonalities, so as to seamlessly integrate and springboard off of the film’s striking score.

It is easier to define Dionne Warwick by what she isn't rather than what she is. Although she grew up singing in church, she is not a gospel singer. Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan are clear influences, but she is not a jazz singer. R&B is also part of her background, but she is not really a soul singer, either, at least not in the sense that Aretha Franklin is…

Like many big-budget albums of the last years of the 2000s, Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel faced shifting release dates, all as the final product was tweaked in light of disappointing reactions to early singles, particularly the Eminem-baiting "Obsessed." Unlike many of those big-budget albums, including several made by Mariah herself, Memoirs isn't the product of a stable of producers and collaborators; it is almost entirely the work of The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, the team best known for their tracks for Rihanna. Certainly, there are echoes of "Umbrella" to be heard on Memoirs, just as there are elements of the gauzy "Touch My Body," The-Dream and Tricky Stewart's previous single for Mariah, although working with mainly one set of producers does give Memoirs a cohesion that can sometimes lapse into sameness, but not in an unpleasant fashion.

Contains songs from 1944-50, including all of his output from this period as well as over 35 of his hits, available here in their original versions for the first time on CD.
The 120 tracks on these five CDs constitute a group of Eddy Arnold songs with which few people under the age of 50 could be familiar – only about a half-dozen of them ever appeared on LP, much less CD. Recorded between 1944 and 1950, they represent his rise to country stardom (but not yet to pop stardom), and also the evolution of country music in the period immediately after the war. His performances on the early sides were heavily influenced by the work of Gene Autry, but they were much closer to hillbilly music, with thin, twangy guitars and fiddle.
