Honey And Wine

On his prior 1967 LP, "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her", Yarbrough had tried to move into contemporary folk-rockish covers, with negligible sales and not much greater artistic success. With "Honey & Wine" there also seemed to be inclinations to update his sound, but great uncertainty as to which way his music should pull. There was just a bit of a nod to pop/rock on the album, primarily in the title cut, a cover of a relatively little-known Gerry Goffin/Carole King composition.

Like the previous Ace compilation A Gerry Goffin & Carole King Song Collection 1961-1967, this CD has 26 vintage recordings of Goffin & King compositions, this one spanning the early '60s to the early '70s.

Iron & Wine is the name that singer/songwriter Sam Beam uses to send his intimate and heartfelt indie folk out into the world. His deeply burnished vocals, keen melodic sensibility, and introspective, free-flowing lyrical viewpoint combine to give him a singular artistic vision.
