Great news for people who love morbid, mordant, sci-fi-inflected synth music: Infiné Music label is reissuing Zed's (aka Bernard Szajner) awesome imaginary soundtrack LP Visions of Dune (1979). Created over eight days on a borrowed Oberheim sequencer and an Akaï four-track, the music here represents some of the deepest, most intense evocations of alien atmospheres ever waxed. It's a claustrophobic and expansive collection of dystopian tone poetry and ominous electro rock that will appeal to fans of Heldon, Magma, and first-half-of-the-'70s Tangerine Dream. Szajner, now 70, told The Vinyl Factory that he conceived a series of what he called “mental impressions of a character, a situation or a concept” from Frank Herbert’s novel.

New York · London · Paris · Munich is M's first album, released in 1979, the title being taken from a line in the verse of the March 1979 hit single "Pop Muzik", an extended version of which is featured on the album. The album features future Level 42 members Phil Gould on drums, Wally Badarou on keyboards and Gary Barnacle on saxophone and flute. Cash Box said of the single "Moonlight and Muzak" that it uses "synthesized electronic effects to create an airy Latin rhythm behind [M/Robin Scott's] spoken vocals." Record World said that the single "That's the Way the Money Goes" is a "loveable electronic dancer here that's sure to be a staple on AOR and the club circuit," particularly praising the keyboards.

Hot Butterfly Review by Amy Hanson
Lauded for their tremendous efforts as a girl group session act throughout the 1960s, Sweet Inspirations made their own mark with two LPs and a string of hits during the late '60s and early '70s, before disappearing under the radar until 1979, when they resurfaced on RSO with Hot Butterfly. Now down to a trio of founder member Myrna Smith, with Gloria Brown and Sylvia Shemwell, the revamped Sweet Inspirations re-launched themselves on the tails of Robert Stigwood's near single-handed disco revolution. With Smith and Shemwell evenly trading lead vocal responsibilities, the band powered through a set of lukewarm disco-inflected R&B. Mid-tempo songs with flavor-of-the-year string arrangements are de rigueur from the opening "Hot Fun" to "It's the Simple Things You Do," both songs managing to overcome a desultory slip into oblivion, thanks to the powerful vocal arrangements.
