Trip hop is a sub-genre of electronic music that originated in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom, especially Bristol. Deriving from later idioms of acid house, the term was first used by the British music media and press as a way to describe the more experimental variant of breakbeat emerging from the Bristol Sound scene, which contained influences of soul, funk and jazz. It has been described as Europe's alternative choice in the second half of the '90s, and a fusion of hip hop and electronica until neither genre is recognisable. Trip hop music fuses several styles and has much in common with other genres it has several qualities similar to ambient music, and its drum-based breakdowns share characteristics with hip hop. It also contains elements of R&B, dub and house, as well as other electronic music. Trip hop can be highly experimental.

Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones are a production and DJ duo who played a significant role in the late-'90s commercialization of trance, though they went on to be known as much for their remixes and eclectic downtempo material. They crossed paths at a Popkomm trade show and debuted years later, in 1997, with "Sunrise." The same year, under one of their aliases, Da Bomb, they also carried out their first high-profile remix via Moby's "re-version" of "James Bond Theme." In 1999, the duo made commercial and overseas breakthroughs with the more forceful but just as melodic "Cream," a number 24 U.K. pop hit created with long-term collaborator Andy Kaufhold. The same year brought In da Mix, their first album, a continuous set of their own tracks.

Conceived as a musical journey of love, Najee's 2013 album, The Morning After, finds the sweet-toned, smooth jazz saxophonist delivering a set of songs that bring you along on a sensual and romantic road trip. The album follows up Najee's equally as passionate 2012 release, The Smooth Side of Soul. Along with a bevy of superb studio musicians, Najee is backed here by a capable rhythm section featuring keyboardist Demonte Posey, guitarist Ray Fuller, bassist Bill Sharpe, and drummer Daniel "dpondrums" Powell. Also featured is vocalist Meli'sa Morgan, who adds her warm and throaty vocal presence to the intimate R&B-infused track "In the Mood to Take It Slow." Elsewhere on The Morning After, Najee delves into the buoyant, streamlined jazz funk of "Rendezvous," the smooth jazz noir of "Paseo Nuevo," and the sparkling, groove-oriented "Trip to the Moon.".

The men behind the European downtempo outfit Zero 7 – producers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker – launched their careers in the music industry as tea boys at a London recording studio. Shortly thereafter, however, both were in the thick of action, working alongside a string of well-known British musicians such as the Pet Shop Boys and Robert Plant. They spent the best part of the '90s honing their production skills behind the scenes. Then, after taking on the name of a nightclub in Honduras, the duo gradually began unleashing their own ideas onto an unsuspecting public.
