Composed in 1866 for the inauguration of a votive chapel in Linz Cathedral, Anton Bruckner’s Mass no. 2 is a fine example of modernity blended with a centuries-old religious tradition, in that wind instruments are set in dialogue with choral writing inspired by Gregorian chant.

Il katechon è «la questione di fondo» di tutta la teologia politica: così scriveva Carl Schmitt a Hans Blumenberg nell'ottobre del 1974. L'enigmatica figura del katechon compare per la prima volta nella Seconda lettera ai Tessalonicesi di san Paolo, dove è riferita ambiguamente a un potere che frena, a una forza che arresta. Il termine viene quindi dalla tradizione antica e neotestamentaria: ma è a partire dall'inizio del Novecento che diviene decisivo per il pensiero politico, continuando a incuriosire il dibattito filosofico contemporaneo. Perché? In quanto potere che frena e che trattiene, il katechon ha anzitutto un valore teologico: trattiene il male impedendogli di manifestarsi, e però al contempo, così facendo, allontana il giorno della salvezza, quello in cui il regno di Dio si realizzerà su questa terra dopo avere sconfitto l'Anticristo..
