After getting his start in television in the late '50s, Williams worked more steadily on feature films by the early '70s, impressing with his stirring orchestral scores for blockbuster disaster films like The Poseidon Adventure (1972), Earthquake (1974), and The Towering Inferno (1974), as well as through his work with such emerging directors as Robert Altman (1973's The Long Goodbye) and Steven Spielberg (1974's The Sugarland Express). His recurring partnership with Spielberg would span six decades.

World famous composer John Williams returned to Japan for the first time in 30 years to conduct the Saito Kinen Orchestra in a performance of some of his most iconic scores – from Harry Potter to Star Wars. Invited personally by the legendary conductor and lifelong friend Seiji Ozawa, the new album John Williams in Tokyo captures the magic of this once in a lifetime event.

30 years after his last visit to Japan, John Williams returned to Tokyo for a special concert, making his debut with the world-famous Saito Kinen Orchestra in renditions of his own music and reuniting with his longtime friend, Seiji Ozawa (1935–2024). Captured live on record at Suntory Hall last year, John Williams In Tokyo is set to be released on 3 May and follows his acclaimed concert albums, The Berlin Concert and John Williams in Vienna. The album includes 11 pieces conducted by John Williams and a bonus track, ‘Tributes! (for Seiji)’ composed by John Williams for Seiji Ozawa, conducted by Stéphane Denève.
