Enjoyed this album as I had bought it way back in the day when Harvey Mandel had been enlisted as Canned Heat's lead guitarist for Henry Vestine. This really shows a classy, cool and jazzy side of Mandel a few years later and being one of those all in a few days recordings quite good at times, others just ok.

Harvey Mandel is among the most innovative guitarists to emerge from the Chicago blues scene of the late 1960s. His career began at Twist City and other local hotspots, sharing stages with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Buddy Guy. He came up in that scene alongside Charlie Musselwhite, Mike Bloomfield, Barry Goldberg and Steve Miller, leading to an invitation from Bill Graham to open for Cream at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium in August 1967.

Although he took blues guitar to uncharted sonic territory in the late '60s with Charlie Musselwhite and on his own solo discs, this '90s return to 12-bar roots was a bit like forcing Mandel to play handcuffed – he seems constrained by the standard-fare repertoire. Mark Skyer's affected, generic vocals and the title track's trite lyrics don't help.

Always the innovator, always in demand and a pioneer of electric blues, few guitarists can claim to have played with John Mayall, Canned Heat and the Rolling Stones, performed at Woodstock and at the Grammy Awards with Bob Dylan. Harvey The Snake Mandel's career has spanned over 50 years, bridging the gap between the blues, jazz and rock with his two handed fretboard tapping and his creative use of sustain and controlled feedback. Mandel was a major influence on the styles of legendary artists Stanley Jordan, Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai, among others.
