Szeryng was much admired for his combination of technical virtuosity and tremendous musical integrity and knowledge. Szeryng was a leading representative of the golden age of violin playing, along with such artists as Jascha Heifetz and Fritz Kreisler; his playing embodied a lushness of tone with sophisticated phrasing and bold intensity rarely heard today.

The visiting Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra opened its concert at the 1967 Vienna Festival with a high-octane performance of Dvorák’s patriotic overture The Hussites. The Lost Recordings retrouve les bandes masters de ces enregistrements studio du grand Henryk Szeryng dans les archives de la radio berlinoise. En 1962 et 1963, les ingénieurs de la RBB réalisent une véritable prouesse acoustique dans le studio n°3 – première salle à acoustique modulable au monde, conçue par Hans Poelzig en 1929.
Henryk Szeryng a la réputation d’un maître scrupuleux, intransigeant et authentique qui se range aux côtés d’un Milstein ou d’un Grumiaux. En avril 1963, il a 44 ans. Au sommet de son art, il sort méticuleusement de sa boite son Guarnerius del Gesu, dit « le duc » avec lequel il marquera l’histoire du violon.

As a young boy he was trained by his mother to play piano but later decided to exchange the instrument for the violin. In 1928, convinced by Bronisław Huberman (a friend of the family), Szeryng went to Berlin to study under Karl Flesch. His debut concert took place in Warsaw in 1933 when he performed Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Bruno Walter. In the same year he played in Bucharest, Vienna, and Paris, achieving acclaim both from the audience and the critics. In the years 1933-1939 the artist continued to learn violin under Jacques Thibaud and Gabriel Bouillon and studied composition under Nadia Boulanger.
