In her striking debut album Light Of A Strange Day, the artist Hite revels in these contradictions. Hite is someone we’ve met before: she is the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Julia Easterlin, who collaborated with the famed Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Toure on their album Touristes. The new moniker marks a new direction for Hite: as Julia Easterlin, she made her initial reputation by looping and layering her voice to create her music. On Touristes, she began to move away from what she calls “the looping artist pigeonhole.” This record, Light Of A Strange Day, she says, “is a natural progression, away from loops and into more flexible, expressive forms of storytelling.”

Canned Heat's 1978 release, Human Condition, was an important one in the band's overall discography, as it was the last studio effort to feature original singer Bob Hite fronting the band (Hite would pass away in 1981). In 2006, the album was expanded with a pair of live tracks from 1985 and retitled Human Condition Revisited, and was packaged as a double disc that also featured the overlooked 1981 solo effort by Canned Heat guitarist Henry Vestine, I Used to Be Mad! (But Now I'm Half Crazy).

The Triumph of Time and Truth is, paradoxically, both Handel's first and last oratorio. He originally composed this allegory on the transience of beauty and worldly pleasure (with only four singers, a chamber orchestra and an Italian text) for his patron, a Roman cardinal, in 1707 when he was just 22. By 1758 the work had become an English oratorio with five soloists, full orchestra and choir. This release, which followed 1998 performances at the Aston Magna Festival in Massachusetts, presents the 1707 original version, but with the arias in Italian and the recitatives translated into English.
