A Sinatra standard, a Chick Corea work, 3 scintillating compositions from the band’s personnel, and even a couple of Chuck’s own pieces are shone in a new light.

For four years, American-born trombonist Marshall Gilkes (pronounced "Jilks") was a member of one of Germany's premier jazz ensembles, the WDR Big Band, in Cologne (Koln). One month after leaving the band in 2013, Gilkes was invited back to preside over a farewell performance at the WDR Funkhaus Studio 4, the result of which is this sharp and stylish recording, named after the city in which Gilkes embraced new friends while broadening his musical horizons.

And She Closed Her Eyes is the second album from Swedish singer-songwriter Stina Nordenstam. This album gave Stina a larger audience outside of Sweden thanks to the use of the song "Little Star" in Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film, Romeo + Juliet.

My Personal Songbook is the first recording of the grand master's original compositions performed by an extended orchestra to be released. This exceptional recording took place in January 2013, when Carter appeared with The WDR Big Band in Cologne. Three acclaimed concerts with The WDR Big Band in Geneva, Zrich, and Essen followed and strengthened the master bassist's wish to extend the collaboration. Naturally, The WDR Big Band acceded to his wish, because apart from the fact that Carter is one of the leading bassists in the history of jazz, the musical vibes between the WDR Big Band and the famed guest soloist were highly compatible from the start.
