House at The Bottom of The Lake

The latest in a long line of highly successful romances by veteran author Whitney ( The Ebony Swan , etc.) is a lightweight piece of fluff guaranteed to strain the credulity of her most diehard fans. Events are set in motion when Lauren Castle travels from her California home to the rugged resort of Lake Lure, N.C., as a result of an anonymous letter suggesting that her husband's death some two years earlier was not an accident. It seems that Jim Castle had learned something about the long-ago suicide of beautiful film star Victoria Frazer, who drowned herself in Lake Lure and who just happens to be Lauren's grandmother–a fact known only to Jim and his old friend Gordon Heath, the man Lauren has come to realize too late is her real love. Spaceships, UFOs and government cover-ups all come to light in Lauren's investigation, which is endangered by threats on her life. The bizarre climax fails to resolve a plethora of subplots, making this one-dimensional effort as unsatisfying as it is improbable. Only Whitney's atmospheric evocation of the rugged setting has anything to recommend it.

The Magic School Bus is a series of children's books about science. They feature the antics of Ms. Frizzle, an elementary school teacher, and her class of eight children (in the original books, the class population was at a larger and more standard amount), who board a magical school bus which takes them on field trips into the solar system, under the Bed, into the American Flag, or to other such impossible locations. The books are written in the first person from the point of view of an unnamed student in "the Friz's" class. The class pet, Liz, an anthropomorphic lizard, accompanied the class on their field trips.
Since the Magic School Bus books present scientific facts in the form of stories in which fantastic things happen (for example, a bus turns into a spaceship, or children shrink to the size of blood cells), each book has a page at the end detailing in a humorous manner which parts of the book represented scientific fact and which were fanciful storytelling. In the books' television adaptation, this was replaced by the Producer Says segment at the end of each episode, in which the producer of the show (voiced by Malcolm-Jamal Warner of The Cosby Show fame) receives phone calls from kids complaining about how some things that happened on the show couldn't happen in real life. This allows the show to explain the specific facts in question and why they had to be disregarded to a degree because of the need for dramatic license.

The hilarious, charming, and candid story of writer Christopher Ingraham's decision to uproot his life and move his family to Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, population 1,400—the community he made famous as "the worst place to live in America" in a story he wrote for the Washington Post.

Cult filmmaker Jean Rollin hit rock bottom with this soggy horror tale of drowned Nazis rising from their watery graves as hungry zombies. Howard Vernon leads a cast familiar to any fans of the prolific Jesus Franco, who was slated to direct this film before his bosses at Eurocine gave the assignment to Rollin. It mattered not, because Franco was able to take his own crack at the Nazi-zombie subgenre with the equally wretched Oasis of the Zombies. Bad cinema buffs are free to take their pick, while those looking for a better treatment of the same plot should consider Ken Wiederhorn's Shock Waves instead.

Jack Miller whips Mac O'Connor and Al Douglas in a no-holds-barred fight to become the leader of an outlaw-motorcycle gang, and as a victory prize, Sherry Tabor becomes Jack's "Old Lady" and has to take on each gang member sexually…one-at-a-time. The gang comes upon two teenage couple swimming in a lake and Jack decides the gang needs a couple of new "Mamas." They overpower the girl's boyfriends, Frank Billings and Joe Banana, of the Joe Banan Thing band..and take the girls with them. Joe, whose thing is evidently fighting, is hospitalized, but Frank finds a wallet belonging to Miller, and sets out to rescue his sweetie, Liza Jensen, who may or may not desire any rescuing.
