While they never scored major commercial success in either the United States or the United Kingdom, the Creation inspired a cult following during their original 1966-1967 run that continues to grow with the passage of time, and with good reason. The Creation's pre-psychedelic fusion of mod style and freakbeat sound was intriguing enough, but the real key to their music was the guitar work of Eddie Phillips, who combined forceful, elemental picking with feedback and the use of a violin bow (years before Jimmy Page embraced the idea) that allowed him to conjure singular sounds from his axe. Combine that with the inspired crash-and-bash of bassist Bob Garner and drummer Jack Jones, and the soulful passion of vocalist Kenny Pickett, and the Creation produced a sound that was second only to the Who for sheer power and inventiveness during their brief, impressive heyday…

What is an album review anyway? I just finished watching a famous video reviewer discussing the artist’s process in excruciating detail. I don’t think I could ever do that. Would anyone even care to spend 15 minutes reading the fastidious breakdown of a 36-minute album? Either way, the chance that this was going to be an average review was small from the start. I picked Dreaming The Dark to review because I was seeing Tamaryn live on the day the album was being released, and I had hoped for a little serendipity to help me out.

A British dance-pop group which found fame thanks to the antics of androgynous frontman Pete Burns, Dead or Alive formed in Liverpool in 1980. Burns first surfaced three years prior in the Mystery Girls, later heading the proto-goth rockers Nightmares in Wax; he founded Dead or Alive with keyboardist Marty Healey, guitarist Mitch, bassist Sue James, and drummer Joe Musker, debuting in 1980 with the Ian Broudie-produced Doors soundalike "I'm Falling." "Number Eleven" followed, but just as the group was gaining momentum, they were swept aside by the emergence of the New Romantic movement, with Burns subsequently charging that fellow androgyne Boy George of Culture Club had merely stolen his outrageous image.

Twisted, wonky, off-the-wall sounds for dark rooms and sweaty basements! The result of countless late night studio sessions where the synths were tweaked to fuck, drum machines jacked and meters run sizzle-hot, these are pure analogue jams ready to take your productions into freak mode.

The new album from Nosound, 'Allow Yourself', is a new expression from the group who have grown alongside their evolving and borderless label Kscope. The new material is a stripping back of what has come before, and its inspirations are in a different field altogether, based on founder and songwriter Giancarlo Erra's own shifting interests. "Time has arrived for a radical change towards an alternative and electronic direction, being the music I have enjoyed the most in recent years."
