Avid Jazz presents four classic Yusef Lateef albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered double CD. “Jazz for the Thinker”; Eastern Sounds”; Other Sounds” and “Into Something”.
Currently only available on vinyl LP, Avid are pleased to make “Jazz for the Thinker” available as part of our ongoing “Four Classic Albums” series. To quote from the original liner notes regarding the music within this debut album… ”their music combines elements of the current “hard bop” approach with Afro - Asiatic tinges, a needed sense of dynamics and extended form, plus a sense of humour and joi de vivre, so seldom found in today’s jazz”…
A new collection of unreleased David Bowie demos will be releasing later this year. Titled THE ‘MERCURY’ DEMOS, the new album includes 10 one-take recordings from 1969 that the iconic artist made alongside John “Hutch” Hutchinson, who helped in providing guitars and vocals to the various tracks. The collection includes an early version of “Space Oddity” (released previously), as well as previously unreleased recordings.
Tracks such as beat heavy opener “Radioactive” and the masterfully layered “Demons” could be performed acoustically around the campfire or electrified in concert. “Tiptoe” has elements of classic ‘80s technopop, while “On Top of the World” is a joyous handclap-driven number with big harmony vocals on the chorus and happy drumming. Both the airplay-friendly sound and thoughtful lyrics of “Every Night” are timeless.
Historically, there's a progression that bands usually follow before their sound goes full-on arena rock. Things will start small and gritty, and then as the fame and crowds build, the sound changes to match the massiveness of the venues. However, on their debut album, Imagine Dragons buck tradition and swing straight for the cheap seats, doing away with generations of sonic evolution in favor of the huge, arena-made sound of Night Visions. Dramatic and sweeping, the Las Vegas band works in the same vein as pop giants Coldplay, offering up track after track of hooky and emotional midtempo jams.
Greatest Hits is the first greatest hits album by Canadian country-pop singer Shania Twain, released on November 8, 2004 by Mercury Nashville. The album contains seventeen of Twain's hits, including all of her seven number one hits on the Hot Country Songs chart. Notably absent from the track list is Twain's self-titled debut album, in which no songs were included. Some songs are included in their pop versions such as "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!". "Ka-Ching!" was included in the European version of Greatest Hits as the song was a massive hit there.
