Punktum: A Diary in Musical Adventures
Then came a long overdue purchase – the triple CD by super minimalist Phill Niblock. Four hours of single instrument drones, beautifully Touch style packed. This is going to be one of those record I will listen to very rarely, but when I do, it will be very rewarding. I never knew Phill Niblock until this record appeared on The Wire’s top 50 in 2006, but since then I keep noticing reference to him and his work. Hope that within long I will have time to sit down for four hours and just listen.

Karen Elson announced, via her Instagram, her sophomore album, entitled "Double Roses", to be released April 7th, featuring a brilliant cast of characters and produced by Jonathan Wilson. The first single, "Distant Shore", features Benmont Tench, San Sonic and Laura Marling. The image and artwork was made by Theo Wenner and Fabien Baron. Karen says: "It's been a long time coming and I'm so happy to share all that's been haunting me".

Under the watchful eye of famed producer Michael Cuscuna, this nine-CD set serves as a compilation of Stitt's 1950s and 1960s Roost LPs. This release also features a 28-page booklet consisting of comprehensively annotated liners. Moreover, the record label does its best to convey the artistic element via a series of black-and-white photos of Stitt and his sidemen amid anecdotes by many of the late saxophonist's affiliates. Interestingly enough, seven of the original LPs did not list personnel. In some instances, guesses were made, although most of these tracks are well-documented, thanks to the producer's diligence and painstaking research. Artists such as drummer Roy Haynes, bassist/composer Charles Mingus, and pianist Harold Maber represent but a few of Stitt's accompanists.

The gifted singer is heard in a variety of settings, from superb small-group sessions to big-band settings and various dates bordering on easy listening; the sessions omitting the often syrupy string sections are the cream of this bumper crop.
