Neo-prog band Pendragon formed in London during the heady days of punk, but didn't coalesce until 1983, when the band began playing around London and earned a small spot at that year's Reading Festival. The lineup stabilized, after the 1985 album Jewel, around vocalist/guitarist Nick Barrett, bassist Peter Gee, drummer Fudge Smith and keyboard player Clive Nolan. Pendragon recorded the live album 9:15 in 1986 and began to establish a continental fan base the following year. European audiences proved enthusiastic, spawning a contract with the French M.S.I. label; nevertheless, the group was forced to form its own Toff label just to release material in England. On 2005's Believe they took their music in a somewhat darker direction, causing a certain amount of controversy amongst their fans.

WHITE DOPES ON PUNK is a manifesto on the punk rock ethos. Over 50 songs the collection pulls from both the best and the worst, representing the genre's true DIY aesthetic. The Damned, the Averts, the Nosebleeds, and the Water Pistols, are only a few of the artists on board.You can argue the world needs another punk compilation like you need a Doc Marten kicking a hole in your head, but White Dopes on Punk is a cut above the average, focusing solely on the U.K. scene of the mid-to-late '70s but forgoing most of the usual suspects (i.e. the Sex Pistols and the Clash) to create an atypically warts-and-all snapshot of a singular moment in time.

At The Movies is a 3 CD collection of excerpts and pieces from seven films scored by Keith Emerson covering the years 1981 to 2004. Most of this music is very rare and collectable. Much of it makes its official CD debut in the US. Disc one begins with the complete soundtrack to 1981's Sylvester Stallone suspense thriller Nighthawks. The set features a rare vocal Emerson performance of Spencer Davis hit, I'm A Man. Music from the 1986 film Best Revenge closes the disc with guest vocals from Boston's Brad Delp on the song Playing for Keeps. Disc two covers three Italian movie scores beginning with the 1980 horror film Inferno directed by Dario Argento. Next up is four pieces from 1988's La Chiesa or The Church directed by Michele Soavi. The disc closes with nine tracks scored for the film Murderock released in 1986. Disc three features the score for 2 Japanese films. Harmageddon was an animated film from 1985. Godzilla Final Wars closes the set with 13 tracks which Emerson scored for this 2004 remake of the classic monster movie.

This album shows Pendragon begin to evolve out of their old sound, and into a harder-edged prog rock band. 'Believe' shows less use of synth and the guitar begins to take the front seat, as heard in the opening song 'No Place for the Innocent'. It has a much harder-rocking 90's Rush feel, really reminding me of songs from Rush's 'Test for Echo'.
