DG celebrates the musical legacy of Icelandic composer/sound innovator, J¢hann J¢hannsson, with RETROSPECTIVE VOL. 2. The deluxe hardcover book edition features a comprehensive selection of his award-winning influential albums, original soundtracks (The Theory of Everything, The Mercy), plus previously unreleased tracks (like Olafsson rework of track, Flight from the City), essays by Wyndham Wallace/John Schaefer, rare photographs and bonus DVD of his memorable 2016 Funkhaus Berlin concert.

Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (1969–2018) wrote music for a wide array of media, including theatre, dance, television, and films. His work is stylized by its blending of classical instrumentation with electronic elements.

Acclaimed for film scoring in the past 15 years, Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has recently become the trusted go-to collaborator for director Denis Villeneuve and his stunning pictures, 2013's Prisoners and 2015's Sicario. Now they have delivered their third collaboration, the sci-fi movie Arrival.

Complementing the April 2019 release of Retrospective I, which included such seminal works as The Miners’ Hymns, Copenhagen Dreams and Free the Mind, this second and final volume offers a wide-ranging selection of Jóhannsson’s multi-award-winning film scores and influential studio albums.

“The Mercy” is an upcoming British biographical drama film, directed by James Marsh and written by Scott Z. Burns. It is based on the true story of the disastrous attempt by the amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst to complete the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in 1968 and his subsequent attempts to cover up his failure. The film stars Colin Firth, Rachel Weisz, David Thewlis, Ken Stott, and Jonathan Bailey. Johann Johannsson wrote the score.

Before his death in February, Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson scored the forthcoming horror film Mandy. This is Johannsson's final score. The Mandy score was co-produced by Johann and Randall Dunn. It features Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley on guitar. The album was later assembled with the help of co-producers Pepijn Caudron and Yair Glotman. Johann Johannssonn is recognised as one of the best modern film composers. His score to 'The Theory Of Everything' won a Golden Globe for Best Original Score and was nominated for the same Academy Award, whilst his stunning work on 'Sicario' also earned him the Academy Award nomination for best score. His other notable works include 'Arrival', 'Prisoners' and 'The Mercy'. Directed by Panos Cosmatos and starring Nicholas Cage, Mandy is about a man who hunts the religious sect responsible for killing his wife.

Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the biblical drama Mary Magdalene. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Strong Island) and Jóhann Jóhannsson (Arrival, The Theory of Everything, Sicario, Prisoners). The soundtrack will be released digitally overseas, March 23. Mary Magdalene is directed by Garth Davis (Lion) and stars Rooney Mara, Joaquin Phoenix, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim. The movie tells the story of Mary, a young woman in search of a new way of living, who defies her traditional family to join a new social movement led by the charismatic Jesus of Nazareth and soon finds a place for herself within the movement and at the heart of a journey that will lead to Jerusalem. The drama was released in several European markets earlier this month. No word yet on a domestic release date.
