Suzuki presents the 1749 version of the St. John Passion, a work that underwent many changes since its first performance in 1724. This fourth version, performed at the end of Bach's life, represents his ultimate vision of this great work. (Suzuki includes in an appendix three arias from the 1725 version that Bach removed from this later version.)

Two CDs. Japan was an English new wave band formed in London in 1974 by David Sylvian (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steve Jansen (drums), Richard Barbieri (keyboards) and Mick Karn (bass guitar). They started out as a glam rock-inspired band but developed their sound to incorporate electronic music and art rock influences, eventually becoming an influence on the 1980s New Romantic scene in the UK, although the band themselves were not a part of it. This set was recorded at The Budokan, Tokyo in December 1982 and was their fifth from last show on that tour. The band had become friends with Yellow Magic Orchestra who joined them on some of the performances here - "Bamboo Music" is a duet featuring Akiko Yano, and "Taking Islands In Africa" features Yukihiro Takahashi. Ryuichi Sakamoto also plays on those tracks.

This double-length set, not the "legendary" four-LP Carnegie Hall concert, is the one to get to hear what Chicago sounded like in their classic early period. In contrast to the Carnegie Hall show, where the band emphasized its precision to the point of deadening any excitement that might have been generated, here Chicago sounds upbeat and lively, bent on giving a good, exciting show and not on capturing a perfect performance. There are moments, as on the crescendo of "Dialogue," where the spirit outstrips the cleanness of the performance, but the group is so tight and forceful that one lets them slide by; at other times, as on "Beginnings," they're so smooth and lithe in their extension of the piece that one just wants to bask in it; and then they switch gears to the rougher, harder "Mississippi Delta City Blues," and make that work too. The whole performance is good, with a steady stream of worthwhile high points.

When Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in early 1975, many fans figured that the band was over. But with the arrival of worthy replacement Tommy Bolin, the band was suddenly back in business with the oft-overlooked Come Taste the Band release. What the prior members of Deep Purple didn't know, however, is that their new guitarist had a serious drug problem, which hampered his playing by the time the group landed in Japan for a series of shows in December of 1975. With Bolin allegedly having no feeling in one of his arms on the night of a Purple gig at the Budokan, the show was to be taped for a future release.

According to the liner notes of Barbra's retrospective box set: Just for the Record, the album also received a record certification in Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain. "Thoroughbred" is the 7th album by American singer-songwriter Carole King, released in 1976. Her final release on Ode Records, it's also her last album produced by Lou Adler, who had been her collaborator since "Tapestry" (1971). The track "Only Love Is Real" was released as a lead single from the album, and became her 4th and final chart-topper on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. "High Out of Time", a song featuring David Crosby and Graham Nash on vocals, was also released as a single. Cash Box called "High Out of Time" "a sweet ballad, filled with Carole King's expected but always exciting melody hooks." The track "There's a Space Between Us" features harmony vocals by James Taylor.
