This 40-song double CD includes virtually every Walker track of significance, and then some. Walker is a great player and hits a great groove, but that groove can get tiring over the course of several dozen tracks, especially the similar-sounding early instrumental cuts. Also, the post-'60s selections that take up much of disc two are hampered by material that is inferior to the best output of his '60s heyday. Excellent package and liner notes, but most listeners should be satisfied with the single-disc Greatest Hits, leaving this one for the collectors and specialists.

That sound you hear is the entire city of Nashville wetting their pants some in excitement, most in fear because Wheeler Walker Jr. is back. And he has a new album, Sex, Drugs & Country Music that many are already calling the greatest country album of all time. One listen through Sex, Drugs & Country reveals where Wheelers unrivaled confidence comes from. Once again produced by Dave Cobb (except the song God Told Me To Fuck You, which was produced by someone else) and recorded at historic RCA Studio A, the album is a loud, unapologetic roar of a comeback. Wheeler explains, I figured if Im gonna save country music, why not save Rock n Roll too while Im at it? Sex, Drugs & Country Music is out April 15th on Wheelers own Pepperhill Records and distributed through Thirty Tigers. Try listening to it without shitting your pants. We dare you.

Five CD set. The five albums Jerry Jeff Walker recorded for ATCO and Elektra between 1968 and 1979. Inspired by Bob Dylan, a host of singer songwriters came to the fore and one of the most significant was Jerry Jeff Walker. He merged folk, country and rock and as well as writing his own classic compositions and being a natural storyteller, he encouraged young songwriters and gave many of them their own start. Garth Brooks, Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green and Jack Ingram were all inspired by him. He wasn't born Jerry Jeff Walker. Ronald Clyde Crosby was born in Oneonta, Otsego County, New York State on 16th March 1942. That's not a bad name but it's not as good as Jerry Jeff Walker. Jerry Jeff re-invented himself as a lone star Texas country rocker and today is a major figure in the Austin musical community. His most famous song is 'Mr Bojangles'. This affectionate song became a US Top 10 Hit for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and has been recorded by Sammy Davis Jr., Nilsson, Harry Belafonte, Bob Dylan, Nina Simone and Robbie Williams. President Nixon once said it was his favourite song. This CD set also includes compositions by Kris Kristofferson, Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, Lee Clayton and John D. Loudermilk. Trivia: 'Mr Bojangles' is NOT about Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, a tap dancer who found fame in films with Shirley Temple, as Sammy Davis Jr. Thought.

Modern electric blues guitar can be traced directly back to this Texas-born pioneer, who began amplifying his sumptuous lead lines for public consumption circa 1940 and thus initiated a revolution so total that its tremors are still being felt today. Few major postwar blues guitarists come to mind that don't owe T-Bone Walker an unpayable debt of gratitude. B.B. King has long cited him as a primary influence, marveling at Walker's penchant for holding the body of his guitar outward while he played it. Gatemouth Brown, Pee Wee Crayton, Goree Carter, Pete Mayes, and a wealth of other prominent Texas-bred axemen came stylistically right out of Walker during the late '40s and early '50s.

This album is an exception in Robert Lokwood Jr's , as it's the only one on which he accompanies himself, from beginning to end, on his acoustic twelve-string guitar. This is the only time he allowed himself to go back to the repertory of Rober Johnson!

Walker remains in fine form on this 1995 set, a mix of remakes of past triumphs ("Hello, My Darling," "Hey, Hey Baby's Gone") and fresh explorations. Two distinct bands were utilized - a New Orleans crew populated by bassist George Porter, Jr., and his funky cohorts, and an L.A. posse with more of a straight-up swinging feel.
