Sinne Eeg is likely the finest contemporary jazz singer you’ve yet to discover. While the 40-year-old Dane, regularly ranked foremost throughout Scandinavia, has recorded seven previous albums as a leader, Dreams is only her second Stateside release. Still, it’s an ideal point of entry, a stunning showcase of not only her intoxicating style, which suggests the cashmere embrace of Nancy Wilson paired with the sharp interpretive skills of Shirley Horn, but also her songwriting acumen. Of Dreams’ 10 tracks, four are covers, including a gently inquisitive “What Is This Thing Called Love?” and a downy “I’ll Remember April”.

Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg has a mature, pliable voice that shows traces of singers like Peggy Lee and Sheila Jordan in its contours and sound. She is a long-established presence in her home country but Dreams is only her second album to be released in America. For the occasion she has put together a solid cast of veteran American musicians in guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Joey Baron along with her countryman, pianist Jacob Christoffersen.

Malene Mortensen is a Danish jazz singer. She is an unmistakable musical talent. One can only be fascinated by a vocalist who mixes the taste of her own generation with a choice of repertoire and musicians to produce an album of such persuasive and elegant pop- perfumed jazz. On her third album, Malene has combined a set of personal originals with songs that she just plain likes. Some jazz, some pop. However, there is no doubt that Malene Mortensen’s basic approach is that of a jazz vocalist. She dares give her material that essential personal twist - often with surprising results. Her last CD, the critically acclaimed and award-winning Eeg-Fonnesbæk, a duo project fea- turing only vocals and bass, was her first album distributed in the U.S. On DREAMS, she’s once again joined by her longtime collaborator Christoffersen, with the rest of the ensemble comprising some of the most respected names on the U.S. jazz scene today.

Danish jazz vocalist Sinne Eeg (sée-neh/ée) is known throughout the world, but it all started in a small town called Lemvig in September 1977. Sinne grew up in a jazzy home, where her father played double bass, her mother the clarinet and her brother the saxophone. Naturally, Sinne started singing. She graduated in 2003 from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Esbjerg and then moved to Copenhagen to create her career. Her plan obviously worked.

Jesper Thorn is a Copenhagen-based composer and double bass player. He grew up in Dragør, on the outskirts of Copenhagen.
