Even from the globalized world's point of view in the year 2017: whenever you listen to recordings J.E.Berendt initiated in the '60s you are completely amazed about his visionary character. This is THE landmark album which showcases his explorations. Mani Neumeier, the incomparable drum wizard of Guru Guru fame, convinced Berendt to get the Jazz meets India idea into shape by engaging the Irène Schweizer Trio (which also featured bassist Uli Trepte) and calling in an Indian trio, with sitar player Dewan Motihar, responsible for arousing the Beatles' interest in India. In-between: German trumpet player Manfred Schoof and French saxophonist Barney Wilen. Jazz meets India is a stunning set in which it is a natural course of action that every musician respects and listens to each other - and we dare to say a more sincere approach to Indian music than many of the half-hearted world music blendings of nowadays.

The original Gypsies came from the Rajastan region of India before migrating north and west, eventually centering in Europe and developing a distinctive uptempo musical style, while in India classical raga music arose to express the people's intense spirituality. After many years and many permutations, GYPSY MEETS INDIA reunites the current music of these two rich musical cultures once again.

Mixing the music of jazz icon Miles Davis with sounds and instruments from India, as producers Bob Belden and Yusuf Gandhi did on Miles from India, was far from an outrageous proposition. Davis set the precedent himself — not only with his use of Indian players like the tabla virtuoso Badal Roy in sessions issued on albums like Big Fun and Get Up with It, but also with his sinuous modal compositions stretching back to 1959's epochal Kind of Blue and continuing through his electric period of the '70s.

Within a genre that is characterised by its aging demographic, sax-man Just Young, if not exactly youthful, remains one of the new breed of musicians tasked with the responsibility of bringing smooth jazz to a younger audience. Yet it was ten years ago when he first burst onto the scene with the excellent ‘On The Way’ that was mixed by Paul Brown and featured Tom Schuman, Tim Bowman and Gail Jhonson. A residency at the Seal Beach jazz hotspot Spaghettini followed as did the CD ‘Nothin’ But Love’ and now he is back with the outstanding ‘Blue Soul’.

My new album 'The Generator of All Infinity' is an instrumental concept album of sorts; fusing ambient space rock with 1970s UFO cult aesthetics. The album brings to a close a trilogy that began in 2017 with my album 'Space' followed by 'Eternal' in 2019. ‘The Generator of All Infinity’ returns to me to the moment in 1997 when I quit my indie rock band and started All India Radio, leaving distorted guitars behind. For better or worse I’ve now come full circle and re-embraced the sound I’d fallen out of love with. The cover art by Jesse Jacobi aka Pit of Bones masterfully channels a Hawkwind meets doom metal vibe which suits the music just fine. The album also marks the first time I've used an outside producer 17 years. Handing over your baby is a scary prospect but Joe Haley nailed it!
