André Rieu’s new album “The Sound of Heaven” combines a wonderful selection of classical masterpieces, romantic melodies and timeless evergreens, masterfully interpreted by Rieu and his famous Johann Strauss Orchestra.

Erich Kleiber was among the most respected Austrian conductors for the first half of the twentieth century, noted for precise, exciting, beautifully shaped performances of the great symphonic and operatic repertory. He had the usual school education, and was taught violin as a boy. He was taken to concerts from an early age, and heard some of the legendary figures of music, including Gustav Mahler. He entered university in Prague in 1908, studying philosophy and the history of the arts, while also entering the Prague Conservatory to study music. He won a prize in 1911 for a symphonic poem.

Erich Kleiber wurde am 5. Aug. 1890 in Wien geboren. Als seine Eltern, der Gymnasialprofessor Franz Otto Kleiber und seine Frau Vroni Kleiber, noch während seiner frühen Kindheit kurz hintereinander starben, lebten Erich Kleiber und seine Schwester ab 1896 in Prag beim Vater der Mutter, dem Kutschenmacher Johannes Schöppl.

Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899; German: Johann Baptist Strauß; also known as Johann Baptist Strauss, Johann Strauss, Jr., or Johann Strauss the Younger) was an Austrian composer famous for having written over 500 waltzes, polkas, marches, and galops. He was the son of the composer Johann Strauss I, and brother of composers Josef Strauss and Eduard Strauss.

Johann Strauss, Jr. is the first truly well-known composer in those classical genres particular to his hometown, the Viennese waltz and Viennese operetta. The Blue Danube Waltz is not only the most popular of his works in the former category, but is among the most widely played and arranged pieces of its time, known to the most casual listener today from many radio, film and television uses of it.

Already in 1954 an attempt was made to found a Strauss orchestra. - This year, a part of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Eduard Strauss II had joined together to form a "Johann Strauss Orchestra".
