John Brooks

Nach seinem letzten Fall muss John Craine eine Weile aus der Stadt verschwinden. Er nutzt die Gelegenheit, nach Hale Island zu fahren, wo er als Kind oft mit seinen Eltern die Wochenenden verbracht hat. Jetzt ist das große Hotel Victoria Hall halb verfallen. Doch John geht es ohnehin nicht um Badeurlaub. Als sein Vater sich vor neunzehn Jahren umbrachte, hatte er ein Verhältnis mit einer jungen Frau, Serina Mayo, die jetzt mit ihrer neunzehnjährigen Tochter Robyn in der Nähe von Hale Island lebt. John findet heraus, dass Robyn ein Junkie ist und sich mit ein paar sehr zwielichtigen Gestalten eingelassen hat. Dann entdeckt John in einem alten Bunker am Strand eine Tote. Als er die Polizei zum Bunker führt, ist die Leiche jedoch verschwunden …

Arrowsmith is a 1931 film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It was written by Sidney Howard from the Sinclair Lewis novel Arrowsmith, and directed by John Ford. The film concerns a young medical researcher (Ronald Colman) who leaves his practice as a doctor in a small town to accept a position in an institute. Eager to help mankind, he goes to a Caribbean island to help the natives fight bubonic plague. His loving wife (Helen Hayes) goes with him, much against his wishes.
