Apparsa nel 1871 sulla rivista «Harper's New Monthly Magazine», questa biografia di John Chapman, meglio conosciuto come Johnny Appleseed (Johnny «Seme di Mela»), ci restituisce il ritratto di un personaggio che è diventato leggenda. Vissuto ai tempi dei pionieri a cavallo tra '700 e '800 e considerato una sorta di ecologista ante litteram, Chapman era un uomo semplice, che decise di vivere in povertà e a contatto con la natura, viaggiando a piedi attraverso terre ancora selvagge e piantando alberi di melo sul proprio cammino.
