Although Mstislav Rostropovich died 10 years ago, on April 27th 2007, he remains a powerful presence on the world’s cultural scene through his legacy as the greatest cellist of his time, as a brave advocate of human rights, and as a man of proverbial generosity and charisma, often known simply by his nickname, Slava. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday in 2017.

First of the Big Bands is a studio album by Tony Ashton of Ashton, Gardner and Dyke and Jon Lord of Deep Purple, released in April 1974 by Purple Records in the UK and Europe and Warner Bros. Records in the US. The project was Ashton's and Lord's brainchild and continuation of their working relationship after Ashton Gardner & Dyke helped out on Jon Lord's soundtrack album The Last Rebel from 1971. Stylistically, First of the Big Bands was the precursor to Paice Ashton Lord's Malice in Wonderland album from 1977. Most of the album was recorded at Air and Apple Studios, London, with additional work being completed at De Lane Lea and Island.

This is a unique blend of free jazz and electronica. Beginning with three live concerts, each recorded in four instrumental layers, some performances (notably the trumpet) were left intact, other layers were either re-performed or invented anew. Some layers migrated from one performance to another. Other completely new layers were made by canibalizing parts from previous works and reshaping them. This collection is an interesting blend of live concert recordings and studio mixes which makes for a haunting and ethereal soundscape.

Just three months before his death, pianist BIll Evans was extensively recorded at the Village Vanguard. Originally, one or two LPs were to be released featuring his brilliant new trio (with bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Joe LaBarbera), but after the innovative pianist's death, the project was stalled for over 15 years. Finally, when Warner Bros. got around to it, a definitive six-CD box set was released (although unfortunately in limited-edition form). Evans sounded quite energized during his last year, Johnson was developing quickly as both an accompanist and a soloist, and the interplay by the trio members (with subtle support from LaBarbera) sometimes bordered on the telepathic. The playing throughout these consistently inventive performances ranks up there with the Evans-Scott LaFaro-Paul Motian trio of 20 years earlier.

The title came about before the internet changed the way we viewed sexuality, figuratively and literally. This disc allows people to hear about sex in the privacy of their own home while enjoying the benefits of the subjects at hand. It is fantasy, but where your visuals are only in your mind. For adult listeners only.

Here Not There is the 1993 album by Canadian artist Jane Child. This was the follow-up to her successful 1989 debut album but here, she made a slightly different change in musical styles. That caused the album to be a flop, leading her off of Warner Bros. and leading her away from the mainstream. This featured the singles "All I Do", "Do Whatcha Do" and a non-do song, "Here Not There".

Jane Child is the 1989 self-titled debut album by singer/songwriter/mulit-instrumentalist Jane Child, who some had called Canada's version of Prince. She may be considered a one-hit wonder for the song "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" but she also had a minor hit with "Welcome To The Real World", which oddly enough was not chosen for the theme song by MTV for their docu-series, The Real World. This was her debut for Warner Bros. Records.
