Smiling broadly, Mitchell took her on-stage seat alongside Carlile and began the extraordinary performance that was on nobody’s bingo card. Within minutes, the news had rocketed around the globe. Mitchell was back, sparkling with enthusiasm, delivering a tender and passionate set of 13 songs, ending with a joyful sing-along of “The Circle Game.”

This three CD boxed set features a number of live recordings of Joni from concerts and sessions recorded for FM Broadcast in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Starting with a number of live cuts from shows she performed in the mid to late 1960s, her full set from the Newport Folk Festival in 1968, and a couple more cuts recorded in the early 1970s, Disc One provides an excellent introduction to the girl s live material from that early era. Moving on to Disc Two we are now in the early 1980s.

Allison Russell's second solo album is a jaw-dropper—and a heart-pumper, thought-provoker and ass-shaker. The charm turns on right away with enchanting and syncopated "Springtime" and its sound of shedding burden: "So long, farewell, adieu, adieu/ To that tunnel I went through/ And my reward, my recompense?/ Springtime of my present tense." The song is further warmed by the sound of Russell's clarinet opening up the gates for a full-throated musical expanse featuring Sista Strings and Wendy & Lisa on guitar and piano, respectively. The former Revolution members, who play on nearly every song, belong here—much of Returner boasts a Prince vibe, circa groovy Around the World in a Day.

Regarded as pioneers of the folk & Americana genre, Ian & Sylvia, The Lost Tapes features over 20 unreleased recordings.
Collectively as individuals & as a duo Ian & Sylvia Tyson have sold over 400K albums in the US alone during the Soundscan era. Regarded as pioneers of the folk & Americana genre, Ian & Sylvia first came to prominence in the early 60's folk scene in Greenwich Village and Yorkville performing alongside Bob Dylan (they were also managed by Albert Grossman), Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot (who they made famous by being the first to record Early Morning Rain) and were a headliner on the now famous 1063 Newport Folk Festival. Ian's composition ''Four Strong Winds'' is now considered a standard and a CBC poll in 2005 named it the ''most essential'' piece of Canadian music. Ian & Sylvia were one of the first artists to explore an electric Country Rock sound recording with both New York and Nashville musicians. In early 2019 Sylvia discovered a box of old 1/4 inch analog tapes in her attic that were professionally recorded in the early 1970s in front of a live studio audience. Over 20 previously unreleased recordings, included many of Ian & Sylvia's classics, but also enough to have a full CD of recordings of songs never before included on any Ian & Sylvia album.
