I guess you could say, that things are complicated down here, in the middle of Brooklyn. Oh, and don't forget about writing tickets, reprimanding pedestrians & such. You're a beat cop after all.

Japan has a long history of heroic fictional characters who subdue bad guys by hurling objects at them, such as Zenigata Heiji: the cop who catches criminals by throwing coins and Ultra 7: the henshin hero who temporarily detaches his “Eye Slugger” to hurl at evildoers. To pay homage to that idea, as well as to spoof Japanese detective shows, director Minoru Kawasaki set out to create his own take on the genre. Of course, being the guy that brought us movies like Executive Koala and “Crab Goalkeeper”, plenty of absurdity was in order—but for the first time in his career, he didn’t resort to putting an animal in a typically human a situation.

Ruka is a cop from a squad who's mission is to destroy homicidal mutant humans known as "engineers" possessing the ability to transform any injury to a weapon in and of itself.

Director Danny Pang's Seven 2 One earned some buzz prior to release - though not for entirely positive reasons. Six members of the film's young cast also appeared in Herman Yau's Split Second Murders, which was shot after but released before Seven 2 One, with Seven's producers claiming that Murders ripped off their film's ending. In another controversy, the poster for Seven 2 One took its inspiration from the 2008 Hollywood thriller Vantage Point, with the image concept constituting a direct swipe. With all these accusations of "who copied who" flying around, does anyone remember that there's an actual movie to discuss? Hopefully they do, because Seven 2 One is a slick, if unsubstantial thriller that consistently entertains.
