Talk about a mis-leading title! Judging by the title alone, You Wanted the Best, You Got the Best sounds like it would be the definitive Kiss retrospective, or at least an enjoyable collection of hits. But it's not it's a rip-off album, pure and simple. It doesn't matter that the majority of the tracks are live recordings of their best-known songs, because Kiss always sounded better live than they did in the studio and these versions which were taken from Alive and Alive II are definitive. It's the fact that the release is baited with the live, unreleased "Room Service," "Take Me," "Let Me Know," and "Two Timer," and the rest of the disc is padded with an absurd, 17-minute interview with the four original bandmembers conducted with Jay Leno.

Lions & Ghosts were spun off from the band Voices, formed in 1987 by several La Jolla High School grads; singer Peter Kenvin, guitarist Tommy Andrews, drummer Randy Willert, and bassist Todd Hoffman. They later added keyboardist David Inglish.

You can’t fight evolution. Luna Kiss have been revelling in a constant state of creative change for the last seven years. But it is only in 2017 that the Coventry quartet’s extraordinary, amorphous vision has truly come into sharp focus. Six years on from the release of their acclaimed debut album Echoes Of Sound, Luna Kiss are poised to return with a new collection of songs, Following Shadows. As hinted at on 2014’s Conjure & Sin EP and last year’s Gravity EP, the quintet have blossomed into something enthralling and unique, powered by inspiration and an unwavering lust for creativity. After doggedly honing their live performances while allowing their music to grow and mutate at its own perfect pace, Luna Kiss are now ready to begin an exhilarating new chapter.

Circuit Kisser is an electronic ensemble that consists of four group members: a lead EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), three supporting synthesizers played simultaneously, electric bass/bass synthesizer and drums.

Given Adam Naas’ voice and the stripped down visuals on this second album, you might have expected a load of stripped-back and post-soul gems, or perhaps even a disco revival.

The darkly alluring, deep ­toned voice that embraces these timeless melodies from the parlor song era and Tin Pan Alley days (roughly 1910 to the early 1920s) belongs to the wonderful Alexis Cole. Called “one of the great voices of today”, Alexis has been compared to classic jazz singers such as Sarah Vaughan and Anita O’Day. Cole is the recipient of a Swing Journal Gold Disc award, and has won the NY Jazzmobile and Montreux Jazz Festival vocal competitions.

"When I listen to these records now… when I listen to the Pershing, it's phenomenal, I must say. What they were doing, phenomenal, the lines and the purity. It's so pure … It was sheer joy working with these two individuals. Master musicians," writes pianist/bandleader Ahmad Jamal in the liner notes to this collection. If there ever was a subject worthy of a Mosaic box set, Jamal is it. For six decades, he has been, for several reasons, one of the most enduring and identifiable artists in jazz, or, as he prefers to describe it, "American classic music." First, there is his sound: a breathtaking amalgam of Erroll Garner's pithy touch, Nat "King" Cole's intricate horn-like, pre-bop lines, and Art Tatum's Mephistophelean technique.

In what has been a truly remarkable life and career, multi-talented CONNIE STEVENS started out as an actress and singer, before going on to become a successful Broadway star, business tycoon, movie director, public servant and philanthropist.

On Anne's second release on the JazzMedia label she is joined by Alphonso Johnson and Ndugu Chancler, two of the industry's most in-demand sidemen. Tenor saxophonist Doug Webb and guitarist Steve Trovato also join in this exploration of late '60's to early '70's hits reimagined in a jazz setting. 'We've all heard and the done the standard jazz repertoire, and as much as I love those tunes, I think it's time to expand our idea of what jazz is,' she says. 'From the beginning, jazz musicians have culled material from the world of popular music - reshaping, reharmonizing and, of course, making it swing.'
