"Funny Lady" is a soundtrack album by American vocalist Barbra Streisand. It was released by Arista Records on March 15, 1975 to promote the 1975 American musical comedy-drama film "Funny Lady". Executively produced by Peter Matz, the fifteen tracks on the album were performed by Streisand, James Caan, and Ben Vereen. A soundtrack sequel to 1968's "Funny Girl", "Funny Lady" is a collection of songs from the point of view of American performer Fanny Brice. "How Lucky Can You Get", the album's only single released in April 1975, promoted the record and was written by Fred Ebb and John Kander, who also co-wrote the majority of the songs on "Funny Lady".

With the exception of the title cut on the first album, Those Were The Days (which is given a rather stodgy treatment), this CD is vintage Percy Faith. The second LP, Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet, came out in 1969, when Faith's new sound of orchestra with female chorus had just hit its stride. The trademark harpsichord is there, too. I had this album on LP when I was eight years old, and am pleased to discover that it is absolutely delightful all these years later. The two tunes from Hair are highlights of the album, brimming with energy and delicacy at the same time. Faith also commemorates the tenth anniversary of his big instrumental hit, Theme from A Summer Place, by writing a new version with female chorus. It doesn't displace memories of the original, but it is a welcome piece on this album. If you like your '60's music in a form that is evergreen, this Percy Faith CD is for you.

Even though he came from the theater himself, Bob Fosse, when he came to make a film of Harold Prince's musical Cabaret, did what most movie directors do, taking the 15-song score and cutting two-thirds of it to leave five songs – "Wilkommen," "Two Ladies," "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," "If You Could See Her," and "Cabaret." (In addition, "Sitting Pretty" was performed instrumentally and "Married" in German.) He then allowed the show's songwriters, John Kander and Fred Ebb, to add material to emphasize the film's two musical stars, "Mein Herr" and "Maybe This Time" for Liza Minnelli and "Money, Money" for Minnelli and Joel Grey.

In the late 1960s, conventional wisdom in the record industry held that traditional pop singers should turn from the showtunes of the interwar era they had been focusing on since Frank Sinatra's concept albums of the '50s and accommodate the rock revolution to the extent of covering soft rock songs written by the more sophisticated of the contemporary rock & roll songwriters, starting with John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles, and including such others as Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
