Karaoke

Daniel Feeld (Albert Finney) is working on a fictional play for television. The play, entitled "Karaoke", concerns a beautiful young woman working in a sleazy karaoke bar run by Arthur "Pig" Mallion. Fiction and reality begin to intertwine when Feeld overhears snatches of his dialogue in the world around him – and encounters real people bearing his character's names. The lines between the world he has created and the world in which he lives begin to blur – and a desperate struggle to control both becomes enmeshed in his evolving sickness and a terminal diagnosis. Re-writing his will to right wrongs, leaving his body to a cryogenics laboratory, and plotting to go out with a bang, Daniel Feeld is about to write an ending for one world that will have great repercussions in the next.

Karaoke might seem like an unlikely way to explore the northern Alberta town of Fort McMurray, but through five oil sands workers belting their hearts out at Baileys Pub we get an intimate view of community and culture in a town overshadowed by its reputation.

The age of big business is upon us. For most, this provides the promise of a better future. For some, it marks the end of an era. After 16 years of servicing the printing needs of the community, Copycat will be closing its doors. On the final day of business the store manager, Sam, leads his crew on a crazy and unpredictable day. The staff, consisting of Dean "the slacker", Sara "the slow-witted", Bob "the karaoke champ" and Dexter "the nerd" will entertain a cast of interesting customers.

Duets is a road-trip comedy which revolves around the little known world of karaoke and the whimsical characters who inhabit it. All roads lead to Omaha, site of a national karaoke competition where this motley group of singers and stars …
