This is a pretty cool compilation of instrumentals from the '70s. 12 of the 18 songs here were Top Ten hits, with the rest being minor hits. The title says "rock" instrumentals, but only a few of the songs are actually rock. There is more funk and disco than rock here. One of the odder trends of the '70s was dance/pop versions of classical instrumetals, and this CD has three examples of that.

Recorded in Tennessee, far from the music capitals of LA and NY, this is music that has some great musicians: Bill LaBounty (whose own album is somewhat similar in style), Steve Gibson, Farrell Morris, Shane Keister, Norbert Putnam, Mike Leech, among others. His biggest hit is here, "Bluer than Blue" as is "Almost Like Being In Love" (a great, very different version of this classic Lerner & Lowe song). Curtis Mayfield's "Gypsy Woman", with beautiful classical guitar work from Mr. Johnson, "Ridin' In the Sky" accompanied only by classical guitar, percussion and bass that complement his voice expertly. The production (by Brent Maher and Steve Gibson) is pristine and tasteful.
