Diamonds in the night is the tense, brutal story of two Jewish boys who escape from a train transporting them from one concentration camp to another. Ultimately, they are hunted down by a group of old, armed home-guardists. The film goes beyond the themes of war and anti-Nazism and concerns itself with man's struggle to preserve human dignity (IMDB.com)

D’abord à Paris, où il fut en 1931 le fondateur de la « Bibliothèque de la Pléiade », puis, dans les années 1940, à New York, où il participa à la création de Pantheon Books.

Few (if any?) opera singers have also been Academy Award nominees, let alone for Best Actor. But then again, there is only one Lawrence Tibbett (1896–1960). Described as dashing, Tibbett had a career as a movie actor, radio show personality and host, with sponsors such as Packard, Firestone, and Chesterfield. He was also one of the first “crossover” artists singing Gershwin, Kern, and Porter, and was a staple at the Met. A cogent and articulate advocate for artistic causes (rare in his day), he founded the American Guild of Musical Artists with Jascha Heifetz. But first and foremost, Lawrence Tibbett was an opera singer and one of the greatest baritones of all time.

In the golden age of orchestral recording – the 1950s cusp between mono and stereo – American labels piled into London and Vienna after an aggressive union priced their own musicians out of work. At Abbey Road, players worked 30 days on the trot, three sessions a day, to feed a burgeoning market for classical music. In Vienna, the Philharmonic (exclusively contracted to Decca) performed under six different names for other labels.

Although Ricardo Viñes (1875—1943) was active during the “golden age” of pianism, he deliberately pursued an entirely different musical path from his fellow practitioners. He is perhaps best categorized with the Catalan school of pianists, a group of formidable players that included Albéniz, Granados, Malats, Mompou, and de Larrocha. It goes without saying that Viñes became one of the leading interpreters of the Spanish piano literature.
