Little Misty is a progressive folk band from Montreal, formed by singer Kathryn Samman and guitarist François Jalbert. Known for their projects in the Montreal jazz scene and their work with bands like Bellflower and Tunnel, the young duo stepped out of the box into a more folk/bluegrass sound, mixing it with elements of progressive rock. Kathryn and Francois have been around the Montreal scene for a while now, so they brought together a casting of some of their favorite musicians for this project: Jerome Beaulieu on keys, Simon Page on bass and upright, Kieran Poile on violin and Mark Nelson on drums. Their album, produced by Joe Grass (Patrick Watson), is set to be released on February 14th 2020.

After flirting with strings and horns over the years, Father John Misty—aka Josh Tillman—has gone all in on his fifth album, Chloë and the Next 20th Century. A collection of wannabe standards, it blows a kiss to Irving Berlin and gives a wink at Cole Porter. You hear it in the Jazz Age giddiness of "Chloë," sung with a sort of "Puttin' On the Ritz" delivery: "Chloë is a borough socialist/ She insists there's not much more to it/ Than drinks with a certain element/ Of downtown art criticism." And it's in "Funny Girl"—with its super playful piano, glistening strings and heartsick trumpet— though the lyrics are completely modern, if a maybe a little stalker-ish: "You knocked me out when you charmed the pants off Letterman/ Oh I wish you'd flash that manic smile in my direction."

A good mix of down-and-dirty blues, 1976's Long Misty Days also features Robin Trower's ethereal ballads. Its 1977 follow-up In City Dreams – also included on this two-fer – is slightly funkier than the previous albums, but still highlighted by a delicate ballad, "Bluebird" and the majestic title track.

In January 1985, Chet performed a gig in Dallas, Texas with Fred Raulston's talented band featuring Martha Burke on vocals. The band also met the next day in the studio to record Would You Believe? The live date was issued on three LP's/CD's: My Foolish Heart, Misty, and Time After Time. Misty offers some great moments as well as some forgettable ones. He mumbles through When I Fall in Love and stumbles through Mr. B. However in a swinging take on Misty (featuring a lively vocal by Burks) he starts slow, but is blowing loud and high by the end. I Love My Wife is credited as a Baker composition, and is a sweet little tune, even though Ralston and Darling get most of the solos.

My passion is singing songs from the great American Jazz Standard Songbook. I first heard them as a child. My parents played Cole Porter and Gershwin all the time, and my sisters and I would sing them at home and in the car. Misty Lounge is a collection of classic jazz standards and a collaboration with my good friend and incredible piano player Richard James.

Reissue with the latest remastering. Comes with liner notes. Hard-hitting trio work from Ray – one of his early albums for Columbia, and the record that gave him a surprisingly big hit! "Little Susie" is one of those early 60s soul jazz standards, the kind of catchy tune that got played all over the place on radio, and which forever put the artist at the top of the list for recording dates and live sets for a few years. Ray's riding high here – with a trio that features brother Tommy Bryant on bass, and either Eddie Locke or Gus Johnson on drums – and the album's got lots of other short tracks with a similar down-home soul jazz kind of approach. Titles include "Blues For Norrie", "Big Buddy", "Greensleeves", and "If I Can Just Make It".

Ann has come up with her own debut album, and as usual with debutantes we’ll try to get to know them a little bit better.
The album carries a curious title, Man Hunt (Platinum Blue, PB 4102D), especially considering that there's no such track on display. “The title comes from a girl that's searching for that right, special guy.”
