Though they eventually rose to enormous success in the hair metal era, Whitesnake toiled long in hard rock purgatory as a hard-working, road-ragged group. Little Box 'O' Snakes: The Sunburst Years 1978-1982 goes deep into the band's early catalog for the Sunburst label, offering up five studio albums and three live albums from various concert broadcasts, not to mention the 1978 Snakebite EP, which was previously available only on vinyl. Studio albums include Trouble (1978), Lovehunter (1979), Ready an' Willing (1980), Come an' Get It (1981), and Saints & Sinners (1982).

UK eight CD box set, a scaled down edition of the deleted Box 'O' Snakes. This updated box contains remastered editions of the five studio and two live albums that Whitesnake released from 1978 to 1982 plus a CD edition of the Snakebite EP. The discs come packaged in mini LP sleeves and all are housed in a flip-top box with 16 page booklet.

By placing the location and dates, "New York City, September 19-20, 2001," on the stark cover of this concert album, Laurie Anderson evokes the context in which the shows from which it was drawn occurred: They took place less than two weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the city that was one of the principal targets. Anderson is not the sort of artist one would think of immediately as an ideal commentator on those cataclysmic events; hers is a cool, ironic persona, and irony was one of the immediate casualties of the attacks. Her introductory comments do not bode well, as she speaks, in her perpetually becalmed voice, of the "great opportunity" the attacks provide to "live in a completely new world," surely not a sentiment her listeners can have shared, as the sparse applause indicates.

Whitesnake are a hard rock band formed in England in 1978 by David Coverdale, after his departure from his previous band Deep Purple. Their early material has been compared by critics to the blues rock of Deep Purple, but they slowly began moving toward a more commercially accessible rock style. By the turn of the decade, the band's commercial fortunes changed and they released a string of UK top 10 albums, Ready an' Willing (1980), Come an' Get It (1981), Saints & Sinners (1982) and Slide It In (1984), the last of which was their first to chart in the US and is certified 2x platinum. The band's 1987 self-titled album was their most commercially successful worldwide, and contained two major US hits, "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love", reaching number one and two on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went 8 times platinum in the US, and the band's success saw them nominated for the 1988 Brit Award for Best British Group. Slip of the Tongue (1989) was also a success, reaching the top 10 in the UK and the US, and received a platinum US certification. The band split up shortly after this release, but had a reunion in 1994, and released a one-off studio album, Restless Heart (1997). Whitesnake officially reformed in 2002 and have been touring together since. In 2005, Whitesnake were named the 85th greatest hard rock band of all time by VH1.

Dream Theater’s John Petrucci commented on the special event saying, “In many ways, this was a huge homecoming for the band given the history of Dream Theater’s origins and ties with Berklee. With John and I both being alumni and Mike having been a professor at the college for 10 years, we saw the opportunity to perform together with the students of Berklee as a tremendous thrill and honor. We are extremely grateful for everyone's hard work in making this special event a reality and to all who participated.
