Lola Wants

The story takes place in northern Italy in the 1950's. Lola and Masetto are about to get married. Masetto wants to keep Lola as a virgin until they are married. But Lola is impatient to remain in chastity until the wedding night. She wants to be sure that Masetto is a good lover, before she commits herself into marriage. She does everything to trick Masetto into breaking the moral tradition.

Eartha Kitt was an exotic and uncompromising proposition for the psyche of 1950s America. Although this image may dominate our perception of Eartha Kitt as an artist, it hides a huge talent that lay beneath the outer sheen, and Eartha was to make her name as a talented singer, actress, dancer, cabaret star and political activist.

Eartha Kitt is in excellent form on this never-before-reissued 1962 album, swinging her way through Billy May arrangements on classics like 'Love For Sale' and 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'.

Tierney Sutton has evolved into one of the most striking jazz singers of the early 21st century, simply because of her gift for finding new approaches to familiar songs without abandoning their essence. With her longtime band (pianist Christian Jacob, drummer Ray Brinker, and either Trey Henry or Kevin Axt on bass), Sutton has crafted unusual arrangements of nine standards that many vocalists seem to perform on autopilot without giving them much thought.

It’s a fabled promise that Lola Kirke seems to seek through sound: On her debut full-length Heart Head West, the Manhattan-raised singer/songwriter borrows from the rural vestiges of Americana to trail her own answers on love, loss and longing.

Releasing his debut album, Face To Face, in 1961, this son of a preacher rode in on the wave of aspiring jazz organists that proliferated in the wake of Jimmy Smith's breakthrough in the late 50s. Grant Green was happy to be a sideman on Roosevelt "Baby Face" Willette's maiden session and he was joined by drummer Ben Dixon. To give the studio date a different flavor from Grant's First Stand, saxophonist Fred Jackson, noted for his raspy tone, was added to expand the group to a quartet.
