La Bête The Beast

A moose hunt is the pretext for this film. Nine men and their Indian guide withdraw to the wilderness to spend one week together away from their daily routines. The film charts the social dynamics of this diverse group, how they relate to one another–alternately revealing and disguising their feelings. A rich mix of personalities lends relief to the human topography in this documentary about an annual event that brings out the best and worst in men. The filmmaker chose not to embellish what the camera recorded.

Following the recent successful albums of his transcriptions of music by Philip Glass, pianist Michael Riesman presents a new album of solo transcriptions and arrangements from Philip Glass's opera Beauty and the Beast. In Glass's music, the power of the creative and the raw world of nature, represented respectively by Beauty and the Beast, finally emerges and allows the world of imagination to take flight.

My instrument is animal. Everything in it evokes animality: its shape, its sounds, the abundant iconographic imagination it has created. An instrument with a zoomorphic character, who breathes, blows, screams, moans. Dissecting my bagpipe, i wish to make the shadow of this beast heard and seen.

Fin du XVIIIè siècle, dans un petit village français. Belle, jeune fille rêveuse et passionnée de littérature, vit avec son père, un vieil inventeur farfelu. S'étant perdu une nuit dans la fôret, ce dernier se réfugie au château de la Bête, qui le jette au cachot. Ne pouvant supporter de voir son père emprisonné, Belle accepte alors de prendre sa place, ignorant que sous le masque du monstre se cache un Prince Charmant tremblant d'amour pour elle, mais victime d'une terrible malédiction.
