Lady Torch

I have a collection of 135 titles (142 CDs) issued by Goldmine/Soul Supply record company. This is not a box set but rather it is a collection of albums that are similar in that they all are rare soul compilations by the same company. There are some tracks that are on more than one album but considering the scope and magnitude of this collection, the number of duplicated tracks is small. Some CDs have good artwork, some have none, most have some artwork of varying quality. All are 320 CBR MP3 and are fully tagged. Original post now has added CDs.

Named after Marillion's Number Two U.K. Chart hit "Kayleigh," this set offers a haphazard track listing (identical to '96's Essential Collection) culled from the neo-prog giants' Fish-fronted period. As such, bona fide hits like the title track, "Lavender" and "Punch & Judy" are combined with less well-known (but usually still top-notch) fare such as "Jigsaw," "Lady Nina," and the monstrously overblown epic "Grendel."

Subtitled The Love Songs Collection, this collection promotes the idea of Cher as torch ballad singer, a notion not as far-fetched as one would imagine. Taken from five different albums recorded during her '70s stay at the MCA and Kapp labels, Bittersweet states a strong case for the lung power of Cher's vocal range, as well as her taste for challenging and off-the-beaten-path material. Her Bittersweet White Light album from 1973 (her first with a full orchestra) is here in its entirety, along with selections from Foxy Lady, Dark Lady, Half Breed and Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves, all from Sonny & Cher's second wave of popularity and many featuring Sonny Bono at the production helm.
