On-going Lars Vogt’s discography, whose complete EMI recordings will be released as a beautiful physical boxset this fall. Barely 21 and having just won a prize at the prestigious Leeds Piano Competition, Vogt signed his first contract with EMI and released his debut album in 1991. Making its digital premiere, this recording includes a very ambitious program with Schubert’s Fantaisie-Sonata, Brahms’ last set of piano pieces, Op. 119, a sonata by Haydn and Lachenmann’s variations after a Schubert’s delicate écossaise. A thundering start in the musical industry!

Lars Vogt (1970-2022) early recordings collected here provide a document of an artist who always remained authentic, both to himself and to music. Lars Vogt never sought absolute truth, but truthfulness instead meant all the more to him. The man and the artist were always very close, never currying favour and never detached from the world. He was, instead, open and natural. / "It's incredibly gratifying when you notice that you can perhaps light a little spark, a little flame for music in people, and when music helps you to find the path to your own soul."

The Spannungen Festival held in Heimbach takes its name (German for “voltages”) from its very peculiar venure, a beautiful Jugendstil hydro-electric power plant. June 18th will mark the opening of the 2023 edition, the first to be organized since the passing of its founder Lars Vogt, who was also a regular performer with such fellow instrumentalists as Julia Fischer, Christian Tetzlaff, Isabelle Faust or Kim Kashkashian.

This seventh and final installment of the Anthology of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra covers the years 2000 to 2010, a rich period in the orchestra's history largely characterized by the changing perspectives of a new century. Indeed, it was in 2004 that Riccardo Chailly relinquished his position as chief conductor, to be replaced by the Latvian maestro Mariss Jansons, who shifted the orchestra's focus more towards Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss and Shostakovich. A generation of orchestral players retired and were succeeded by a group of outstanding young musicians, most of them hailing from outside the Netherlands, resulting in a growing internationalization of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Also in this period, the launch of the orchestra's own in-house record label, RCO Live, breathed new life into its rich recording tradition.
