This is a CD of celebration, of encounter, which aims to give universal meaning to the island identity, which has been worked with care, delicacy, heart and rigour. A work and a trajectory of Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra, which we can all be proud of. With this album, our beloved orchestra celebrates its twentieth birthday and has chosen the path of rereading old melodies of folklore and folk song. They contain a review of genres and songs that keep all their freshness, but seasoned with curious arrangements, melodic and rhythmic turns that give a new aesthetic value to our popular musical heritage. In the Canary Islands it is not new that classical musicians are interested in folklore.

For the last 15 years, Allah-Las have alchemically melded surf rock washes with folk rock jangle and rock, building up their lauded music podcast, Reverberation Radio, and record label, Calico Discos, in the process. But a lot has changed since Matthew Correia (drums/vocals), Spencer Dunham (bass, guitar, vocals), Miles Michaud (guitar, organ, vocals), and Pedrum Siadatian (guitar, synth, vocals) first bonded over psych rock vinyl in the back room at Amoeba Records in the late aughts. Zuma 85 signals the start of a new era for Allah-Las, and finds the band reinventing itself in defiance of the algorithmic categorization and robotic sterility. Recorded in the midst of the shift from the Old World to whatever branch of reality we’re on now, it’s a return, too: The album will be released October 13th on their own label, Calico Discos, in partnership with Innovative Leisure, which released early defining statements like Allah-Las (2012) and Worship The Sun (2014).

UK collection. Few back catalogs have been treated with such little respect as that of the wonderful Shangri-Las. Despite the quality of their material - which remains highly collectable - they've suffered a history of badly compiled albums with shoddy packaging and more to the point appalling sound reproduction. RPM have produced a vastly improved sound quality collection before but are now able to go even one better by introducing the true stereo versions of their key recordings. In addition RPM are adding both sides of the hideously rare debut single from the group in turn making it's debut on CD. The packaging is in digipack format as part of RPMs Special edition series containing a dynamic new front cover, new photographs and liner notes.
